A divorce or dissolution of marriage/domestic partnership ends a marriage or domestic partnership. After a divorce has been granted, both parts will be able to marry or enter a domestic partnership again.
You can get a divorce stating that you and your spouse/domestic partner have “irreconcilable differences” as the sole cause. The court will help both parts to reach a fair agreement after the divorce; especially regarding matters like:
- Child Custody and guardianship;
- Child support;
- Alimony or spousal support;
- Property division
Though we’re not attorneys, here at Bakersfield Divorce we’ll help you prepare the divorce documentation you need to submit to the court. In many cases, an attorney won’t be even necessary, saving you money and time.
From the moment you file for divorce and submit all the documentation, it can take at least 6 months for the divorce to be finalized. California law requires a mandatory waiting period of 6 months. Nevertheless, the approval of the divorce judgement could take longer than 6 months.
